Anyone who knows me, knows that I tend to be open to other views even when they might disagree with me on issues like homosexuality.  I believe in grace and civility and want to find ways where we can so grace to each other.

What I don’t have tolerance for is when people slander you.  It’s one thing if someone thinks that homosexuality is a sin, but still show grace and love towards those who are gay.  I can handle that.  I can’t respect someone who doesn’t respect me.

I happened to stumble upon a blog by a Methodist minister who was talking about the upcoming General Assembly of my denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  As many know, a resolution is coming up that will talk about welcoming LGBT persons into the full life of the denomination. To say he doesn’t like it is an understatement.    His language is quite rough, but he finally gets to the point where he calls gay people an abomination.    I don’t know if this man understands that calling someone an abomination is  dangerous stuff.  You aren’t just calling something wrong, but it is the worst thing in the world, something that sickens God.

People can disagree with this resolutions.  I know that there are people who pray and read scripture and still feel homosexuality falls short of God’s intention.  I get that and respect as much as I might disagree with it.  I know that many people are trying their best love God and each other.  But I don’t sense love in this pastor’s heart.  I rarely use this word, but what I find is hate- hate and arrogance.

I’m not linking to the post, but you can find it by googling “The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Is Opening a Potential Can of Worms!”  You can read it yourself.
